Always a hit

By Jose Romero - Jul 06, 2018

The Arizona Diamondbacks have become known for their celebrations of Hispanic heritage. The team does so on a weekend game every September, and puts on a street party with live entertainment, food trucks, and the chance to get to know the teams from the Mexican Pacific League of baseball.

Then there are the giveaway items for fans, which have ranged from soccer-style jerseys to bobbleheads of Latino players to T-shirts to last year's sugar skull bobblehead.

The club's marketing team apparently took the most popular items ever given away and combined them into one bobblehead doll, with Friday's unveling of the Ketel Marte lucha libre costumed bobble.

As bobbles go, this one is creative and colorful, and features a player the Diamondbacks have never featured in such a manner before. Marte, a regular in the infield who signed a big multi-year contract early in the season, is one of several Latinos on the team. Others are David Peralta, Jorge De La Rosa, Silvino Bracho and Randall Delgado.

The first 20,000 fans will receiver a Marte bobble on Sept. 8, and this one is sure to be a big hit for a big crowd, since Arizona is shaping up to be a postseason contender yet again this season. There is a good Latino fan base and games should be meaningful in September.
