Doing the Draft

By Jose Romero - Jun 21, 2018

Thursday night saw the Phoenix Suns make history by using the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft to choose Deandre Ayton from Arizona, a school just down the freeway from Phoenix.

Will Ayton be an NBA superstar like other No. 1 picks LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Shaquille O'Neal? Or will he be less than stellar quality? The Suns are banking on greatness, and the fans gathered at Talking Stick Resort Arena let it be known they truly were OK with the choice.

It's not often a team gets the top overall pick, and if you have a chance to be there with other fans to witness the selection and see the reaction, you take it. At least we did.

The Suns also stocked up on other young talent throughout the draft. It seems the future is bright, although it could take a couple of years to be true playoff contenders. At least fans get to see how good Ayton can become, and with guard Devin Booker already an established young NBA star with  potential, the young Suns give fans a reason to watch them grow up.

Suns fans, who haven't seen a competitive team on the court in a few years, clearly felt like winners on Thursday night.
