The round-robin groups for the 2023 Nitto ATP Finals have been drawn, with Djokovic, Sinner, Tsitsipas and Rune landing in the green group. Alcaraz, Medvedev, Rublev, and Zverev occupy the red group.
The opening matches of the round-robin stage will pit the top seed against the fourth seed in their respective groups, and the seeds in between will compete against each other.
Consequently, Djokovic will commence his quest with a match against Rune on Sunday evening, where he needs just one win to secure the season-ending number one spot.

Thoughts on the Draw
Heading into the season-ending championships, Novak Djokovic needs just one win at the ATP Finals to ensure he ends the year as world men’s No 1.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion has been drawn into the Green Group and aims to win the title for a record seventh time. He’s tied with Federer on six titles and has essentially erased most of his records in the past few seasons.
The draw was made Thursday and saw Djokovic pitted against Jannik Sinner, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune for the round-robin stage.
Second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz headlines the Red Group, including Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev.
The schedulers know what the fans want, so it’s no surprise to see Jannik Sinner playing in the first singles match on Sunday afternoon at the Pala Alpitour in what will be a sell-out home crowd.
The fourth-seeded Italian will play Stefanos Tsitsipas before Novak Djokovic takes on eighth-seed Holger Rune in the evening session.
Tsitsipas leads Sinner 5-2 in their head-to-head rivalry, but their recent form couldn’t be more different, with Sinner winning two titles in October while the Greek has struggled to find his best form this season.
Djokovic will play Rune just ten days after their highly entertaining Rolex Paris Masters quarter-final.
The World Number 1 emerged victorious after two hours and 55 minutes en route to capturing the title at the season’s final ATP Masters 1000 event.
All four of their previous matches have gone the distance, with each man winning two apiece, so it should be another competitive affair.
On Monday afternoon, second seed Carlos Alcaraz will make his ATP Finals debut against two-time winner Alexander Zverev.
Then, in a rematch of round-robin action from last year’s ATP Finals, third seed Daniil Medvedev will play fifth seed Andrey Rublev on Monday evening.
Last year in Turin, Rublev triumphed in a final-set tie-break. However, Medvedev comfortably leads their head-to-head 6-2, including two wins this season.
