No.16 Auburn University women’s tennis team defeated No.24 Alabama, with the final score of 4-3, yesterday, Friday, in Tuscaloosa.
The win marks the Tigers’ fourth straight victory over their in-state rival.
The win improved Auburn’s record to 14–8 overall and 8–3 in the SEC. The Tigers remain in fourth place in the conference standings. Auburn will be back on the court Friday at 5 p.m. CT vs. Texas A&M, on the road

Ali DeSpain and Ava Esposito Cogan, who played together for the first time since Feb. 4 at No. 3. Angella Okutoyi and Adeline Flach, who moved up to 42nd place in the ITA doubles rankings on Tuesday, won their sixth doubles match of the season 6-3 against Anna Parkhomenko and Petra Sedlackova. DeSpain and Esposito Cogan defeated Klara Milicevic and Ola Pitak 6-2 to claim double points for the Tigers.
DJ Bennett play with another set victory on court two. Bennett defeated No. 49 Loudmilla Bencheikh 6-1, 6-2 for her 16th singles win of the season, a team-best doubles match. Auburn fifth-year senior Carolyn Ansari got a 7-5, 6-4 victory over 103rd-ranked Petra Sedlackova to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Ansari’s win improved her overall singles record to 18-9 this season and brought Auburn within one singles win of a team win.

DeSpain and Ariana Arseneault both bounced back with second-set wins after losing the first set in each of their respective singles matches. Milicevic got the better of DeSpain by a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

After losing the opening set in a tiebreaker, the Auburn senior Auburn University downs Alabama 4-3 came back to win the match 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4. The decisive victory of the match marked the 10th double victory of the season for Arseneault.
Auburn interim coach Lester Cook said after the win: “It was another hard-fought game, especially when you play against a rival on their home courts. The girls did a great job staying focused and fighting for every point. super proud of them and happy to have won.”
