No.14 Auburn University women’s tennis team defeated No.15 Duke University, at the ITA Kickoff Weekend match on Saturday in Durham, North Carolina.
With the win, the Tigers earned a chance to participate in the 2024 ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the third consecutive year. Auburn will play its home opener with a doubleheader with Texas Tech and South Alabama on Feb. 4 before making the trip to the ITA Indoor Championships in Seattle, which begins Feb. 9.

Selin Ovunc and Ava Esposito Cogan ran away with a 6-1 victory on Court 2 over Ellie Coleman and Emma Jackson, in a match in which the Tiger doubles won all three service games. After trailing 3-1, DJ Bennett and Adeline Flach came back to win and claim a crucial double point for the Tigers.
Singles started well for Auburn, as Bennett, Flach, Carolyn Ansari and Ariana Arseneault earned victories in the opening set. The Blue Devils tied the score after Selin Ovunc’s game against Katie Codd was retired.
Ansari became the first Auburn player to earn a singles victory, as she defeated Shavit Kimchi in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. In the second set against Kimchi, tshe won 62 percent of the points in service games.
Arseneault brought her team to within one point of victory with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Emma Jackson. Arseneault came back in the second set after trailing 3-1 at one point and scored eight consecutive points during the set. The senior also won 61 of 101 points played during the set to get the win. Auburn’s lead was then cut to 3-2 after Duke earned a win on court six.
Bennett was coming on strong in the second set and built a 5-0 lead over Ellie Coleman. Bennett won eight of her ten service games, including four that reached a score of 40-40.
