No.14 Auburn University women’s tennis team was defeated by No.11 Texas A&M 6-1, at College Station, Friday night.
With the loss, Auburn falls to 14-9 overall and 8-4 in the SEC, which currently puts them in a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference standings.

The Tigers will conclude the regular season Sunday against LSU at noon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Auburn took the doubles point against the Aggies before dropping the singles match. Adeline Flach and Angella Okutoyi jumped out to a 3-1 lead on the second court and held onto the lead en route to a 6-3 victory. The win marked the pair’s seventh straight doubles win.
Carolyn Ansari and Ali DeSpai also started their match on court three with an early lead. With the game tied at three, Ansari and DeSpain took a 4-3 lead and kept it to win 6-4 and claim double points for the Tigers.

Ariana Arseneault was the only Tiger to win an opening set, beating No. 44 Mia Kupres 6-1 in the first frame. DJ Bennett suffered just her sixth doubles defeat of the season in straight sets to No. 19 Nicole Khirin moments before Mary Stoiana, the nation’s top singles player, defeated Ansari to give Texas A&M a 2-1 lead.
After dropping the opening set, Flach held a 5-2 lead over Jeanette Mireles but ultimately abandoned the match. DeSpain stayed in the fight in the second set with Daria Smetannikov and led at the end of the set 5-4 before Smetannikov rallied to win the match 6-4, 7-5 and clinch the team win for the Aggies.
