Argentine Sebastian Baez notched his fifth career title on Sunday in Rio, de Janeiro, defeating surprise finalist and countryman Mariano Navone 6-2, 6-1.
In match that lasted one and 22 minutes, Baez used his efficient game and accurate backhand to offset his younger opponent.
Winning three titles in 2023, Baez earned his first victory over his Navone on Tour.
Navone, who was playing in his first-career final, dismissed No. 2 seed Cameron Norrie in the semifinals and Brazilian upstart Joao Fonseca in the round of 16.
Improving his ranking to No. 60 in the world on Monday, Navone started the week ranked No. 113.
Baez will move up to No. 23 in the world on Monday. A new career high.
