Coco Gauff hilariously admitted she “got fooled” by an X post that falsely claimed her 2024 Australian Open yellow outfits were inspired by Serena Williams and her way of paying homage to the American tennis icon.
Ahead of the 2024 Australian Open, New Balance revealed two outfits created for top-ranked American female tennis player Gauff. The first outfit features a yellow top and a yellow skirt with navy stripes. The alternate outfit is the opposite of the first as it has a navy top and a navy skirt while the stripes are yellow.
One person posted a picture of Gauff’s 2024 Australian Open outfit and an old picture of Williams wearing a similar yellow outfit and wrote a made-up Gauff quote: “With this kit, I definitely wanted to channel my inner Serena. She is an inspiration on and off the court so this one is for her… it even has the lil crop top she had [giggles].”

Gauff reacts: You had me fooled
The author of the post later made a post on X, saying it was stunned by how many people believed it was actually true. Gauff then issued a hilarious reaction, admitting she was one of the persons who got “fooled” by the post.

“You had me fooled (laughing emoji). I even sent the tweet to my agent and I was like ‘I don’t remember ever saying this? Nothing wrong with it ya’ll know I love Serena it wasn’t inspired by her kit. She is a fashion queen tho!! I just literally thought I was going crazy for two mins hahaha (laughing emoji),” Gauff wrote on X.

Meanwhile, world No. 4 Gauff got off to a great start to the new season as she successfully defended her Auckland title in her first tournament of the season.

Now, Gauff’s focus has turned to the Australian Open, where she will try to win her first title at Melbourne Park and her second Grand Slam title.
