Jannik Sinner is about to start his journey at the Miami Open, second ATP Masters 1000 of the season, after his first defeat of 2024, which came against Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells semi-final.
Jannik will face his countryman Andrea Vavassori in the second round of the tournament in Florida.
In these hours Jannik gave an interesting interview to Gazzetta dello sport where he discussed many topics. Sinner spoke about the meeting with the Italian soccer team, present in Miami, but also about his rivalry with Carlitos Alcaraz.
“What did we say with Gianluigi Buffon (former star of Italian Serie A soccer club Juventus)? I was impressed by what he managed to give to sport and what he gave to it. He decided to retire but he lived an emotion for as long as possible, he really took it to the limit and this shows that he loves sport. Gigi is an idol for everyone and I like how he lived his era. He has my mentality about work,” he explained.
“They asked me how I manage to travel so much and to be honest I don’t know either. I’m always in new places, yesterday Indian Wells, today Miami and tomorrow Monte Carlo, I consider myself lucky to experience all of this,” said Jannik.

Sinner dreams Alcaraz’s goals
Jannik then talked about his rivalry with Alcarz, compared to that of soccer stars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“We have just started and we are very young, he has won more than me but we compare ourselves more on emotion than on results. He has already been number one, he has won things that I dream of. If I were to succeed I would be happy otherwise the important thing is to have given everything.
I can’t do more, believe in it and work. After the defeat at Indian Wells, no pressure. It’s just a lost match, it happens. Each tournament offers a new opportunity, starting with Miami. At Indian Wells I had some difficulties but I still reached the semi-final,” he told.
