Jannik Sinner will have to defend the Miami Open final obtained last season, in a tournament where he has always done well so far. The young Italian started 2024 in an extraordinary way by losing his only match in the Indian Wells semi-final against Carlos Alcaraz.
Jannik will challenge his countryman Adrea Vavassori in the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Florida.
In an interview with Sky Sport, the Italian champion said he was ready for his next challenge at the Miami Open, talking about the playing conditions of the US tournament.
The Italian champion focused on the climatic conditions of Miami, which have already had an impact on the performances of some players, such as Arthur Cazaux and Matteo Berrettini. Humidity and high temperatures are taking a physical toll on tennis players in Florida, who, as in the case of Cazaux, were forced to be hospitalized following a fainting spell.
“I’m fine. I’m not 100% yet but I’m working on it. After the match with Alcaraz I was a little worried but now I’m calm,” explained Sinner.

The 22-year-old Italian then talked about the difficult conditions of the tournament being held in Florida, in which he reached the final twice.
“Naturally, as in many tournaments, the central course is different from other courses. Compared to Indian Wells, here there is much more humidity and with the wind it becomes difficult to play. But in general I have already shown that this is a course that I like,” he explained.
Sinner then continued by talking about the progress of his tennis and the effectiveness of his shots.
“I’m working a lot on the serve and trying to improve on the change of direction, which can be the key. In general, however, I’m training all my shots, even the volley, to be more incisive with the serve and volley,” he told.
Jannik concluded the interview by describing his meeting with the Italian soccer players.
“For me it was an honor to meet the Italian national soccer team. In some ways it impresses me to receive this esteem at just 22 years old from soccer players who are among the best in the world, but this is proof that age is just a number. I was pleased to meet the team: some players I already knew, others I didn’t. I send them good luck for their upcoming endeavors and the future,” he said.
