Jannik Sinner will close the first two months of 2024 with two tournaments played and two victories: the Australian Open and Rotterdam. Still unbeaten in 2024, Jannik is back from 15 consecutive successes, 32 wins in the last 35 matches played, counting the defeat due to retirement in Paris Bercy against Alex De Minaur. A march worth 4 tournaments and the conquest of the Davis Cup with Italy, at the end of 2023.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Sinner talked about his countryman Matteo Berrettini, who has been experiencing a dark period for a few years now, dotted with injuries that have kept him away from the courts for a long time.
“He has had many injuries, we hope he returns. It is not right to forget his successes. We Italians are a good group, we all respect each other even if we are all different. I work a lot to achieve my goals and my dreams, because I don’t want have regrets,” Jannik told.
Sinner then added that he is not afraid of failure. “All the matches that are won are not won on the day they are played. You win by preparing for months, perhaps years, working for that match. We’ll see if this work will also help with the first failure, we’ll see how I react. But I’m not afraid of making mistakes, I don’t think about it. I don’t see what’s the point of thinking about it.”
Sinner is already projected towards his next seasonal goal, the ATP Master 1000 in Indian Wells, but before that the Italian will take advantage of a few days of rest to return to hug his family again.
And Berrettini praised Sinner
Currently, however, Matteo Berrettini is outside the top 125 tennis players in the ATP ranking and is working to regain good condition. In the last hours. Matteo gave an interesting press conference, during which he talked about many topics, including a beautiful eulogy to Jannik Sinner.
“I really have great respect for Jannik, I played with him for the first time in Monte Carlo and I realized that he was a special boy. In some ways I expected it and in some ways I didn’t. Jannik is doing some crazy things, we talk often and he is helping me a lot.
The Davis Cup also gives me a boost, and I want to work to improve. In tennis it happens that we stimulate each other, seeing an Italian who trains with me and is at the top makes me want to reach these levels too,” he told
Then Berrettini talked about the future and his expectations.
“Grand Slam tournaments? In 2024 I won’t chase Grand Slam titles, I’ll try to have a different approach. Sinner at Wimbledon? I think he’s one of the favourites, if it’s not him…Then there’s also the clay season which it is very expensive, he is part of the favorites and will be like this for the whole season. At the moment the ranking interests me less. I’m interested in going back to playing matches with top-level players,” he told.
Berrettini will return to the field in the Challenger in Phoenix and then will participate in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami.
