Scotland’s Laura Muir plans to race in the 3,000m at next year’s World Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

Jemma Reekie has already underlined her intention to compete in the 800m at Emirates Arena from 1-3 March.

Neil Gourley, who won 1500m silver at the European Indoors last March, is automatically selected via his efforts in the 2023 World Indoor Series.

Muir, 30, claimed gold medals in both the 1500m and the 3,000m in the 2019 European Indoors in Glasgow.

“Obviously it is an Olympic year and there will be a huge focus on Paris in terms of our training camps and race plans,” said Muir.

“But after thinking it through, me and my coach felt Glasgow 2024 was too good an opportunity to miss.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have been able to compete at Commonwealth and European-level championships in Scotland, so cannot wait to add a global competition to the list.

“I like nothing better than racing in front of a packed Scottish crowd at Emirates Arena. Glasgow 2019 remains one of the best memories in my career.”

Muir said she opted for the longer race rather than the 1500m, which would be a heat and a final, because the likely schedule for the week means she will go straight into the 3,000m final.

Muir claimed Olympic silver in the 1500m in Tokyo and the 2024 World Indoors will play a part in her countdown to the Paris Games, which begin on Friday, 26 July.
