With a dominant performance against GT and a clean bill of health for their key players, the Lucknow Super Giants are in high spirits.
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finally broke their losing streak against the Gujarat Titans (GT), registering a convincing 33-run victory in the 2024 IPL. This win marks a significant milestone for LSG, as they had previously lost all four encounters against GT in the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Yash Thakur Takes Center Stage
The hero of the match was undoubtedly LSG pacer Yash Thakur, who ripped through the GT batting line-up to claim the first five-wicket haul of IPL 2024. Bowling with exceptional control, Thakur finished with impressive figures of 3.5 overs, 5 wickets conceded for only 30 runs.
His spell began with a fiery yorker that dismissed GT captain Shubman Gill in the fifth over. Later, a crucial double-wicket maiden in the 15th over, removing Vijay Shankar and Rashid Khan, completely shifted the momentum in LSG’s favor. Thakur capped off his brilliant performance by taking the wickets of Rahul Tewatia and Noor Ahmed in the 19th over, sealing the victory for Lucknow.
Teamwork and Confidence Key to Success
In the post-match press conference, Thakur expressed his gratitude to the team management, specifically coaches Justin Langer, Morne Morkel, and captain KL Rahul for their unwavering belief in him. He also highlighted the importance of sticking to the pre-determined bowling plans and adapting to the slow pitch conditions. Variations like bouncers and slower deliveries proved effective for LSG, ultimately leading them to victory.
He said: “I want to thank Team management – my coaches Justin Langer, Morne Morkel sir and KL Rahul bhai for shoeing confidence in me.”
“We stuck to our plans and KL Rahul said that we will defend the target like we are being doing earlier. The ball was getting stuck and the pitch was on the slowish side. The variations like bouncer, slowers were important and helped us seal the deal.”
Mayank Yadav Injury update
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were dealt a temporary scare when Mayank Yadav walked off the field after bowling just one over against GT. His pace seemed to have dipped, and he conceded three boundaries before leaving the field.
However, fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Despite initial concerns, Yash Thakur confirmed that Mayank’s injury is nothing serious and he has recovered well. In fact, Yadav has been LSG’s standout fast bowler so far, claiming six wickets for just 41 runs in his previous two matches.
“After Mayank Yadav was ruled out of the match, KL Rahul said to Yash Thakur “Maybe this is your day and you can win the match for us”. Just believe and don’t think about external things because it’s not in our hands,” Yash Thakur said.
“He is all good now. Nothing to worry.”
