Sinner Manouvres Past Machac
Jannik Sinner notched up his 20th win of the season thanks to a 6-4, 6-2 win in 91 minutes against To Machac.
The Italian broke in the opening game, but Machac hit back immediately to level. The pair’s opening exchanges were competitive, with the Czech taking big cuts at the ball off his backhand wing to prevent Sinner from gaining the upper hand on the baseline.
It wasn’t long until Sinner found the measure of his opponent; however, coming through an 8-minute game at 3-3, he found another decisive break.
In the second set, Sinner continued how he ended the first, and he began to target Machac’s weaker forehand, which leaked quite a few costly errors, which his physicality and explosiveness around the court weren’t enough to make up for.
I didn’t exactly know what to expect today. In the first games, I was looking at what kind of tactics could work or not… Today, I played well, especially in the important moments of the match. I’m really happy to play again in the semis here. Sinner on figuring it out vs Machac.

Highlights
Medvedev Jostles Past Jarry
Daniil Medvedev is edging closer to defending the Miami Open as he booked his spot in the semi-finals with a 6-2, 7-6(7) win over Nicolas Jarry.
Jarry has been playing the best tennis of his career lately, but you need more than just heavy groundstrokes to trouble Medvedev, as that proved in the first set; the Russian soaked up everything Jarry had to offer, making just three unforced errors.
After an early break, a hold from 0-30 put Medvedev 5-2 in front, giving him a ‘free’ game to secure the set. He took that with open arms, breaking to 15 to take the opener 6-2.
The Miami crowd has a large contingent of Chilean fans, and during the second set, they ramped up their support of Jarry. Feeding off the energy, he started to find more success by coming forward.
Medvedev more than held his own, but Jarry’s hard work finally paid off as he fashioned his sole break point of the match at 5-5 30-40.
Medvedev erased it and took advantage of some Jarry errors to take the second set tiebreak 9-7.
In the first set, I thought I was playing at a good level, not doing anything extra, just enough to win. Then he started to play much better and it was tough rallies, tough points. He served better and it was just a matter of a few points in the tie-break. I expected he would get a lot of support from the Chileans, and it was a good atmosphere. Medvedev on battling Jarry and the crowd.
