The 2024 Miami Open semi-final lineup is complete, as Grigor Dimitrov and Alexander Zverev won their quarter-final matches.
Zverev was the first man on the court, and he wrapped proceedings relatively quickly with a 6-3, 7-5 in 1 hour and 37 minutes against Fabian Marozsan.
In the night session, Grigor Dimitrov flipped the script by outplaying Carlos Alcaraz to come through 6-2 6-4 and put himself on the verge of returning to the top 10 in the ATP rankings.

Zverev Moves Aside Marozsan
Sascha Zverev prevented Fabian Marozsan from recording a hat trick of top-10 wins in Miami with a 6-3, 7-5 win to reach the semi-finals.
The German broke early in the first set, and although Marozsan kept things highly competitive, Zverev managed his tennis better over the two sets, committing fewer unforced errors and playing a more measured game.
Whereas Marozsan played some ill-timed drop shots, he couldn’t find a way past the fourth seed’s backhand that was firing nicely throughout the one-hour and 37-minute match.
If he keeps playing like that, he will rise up the rankings very quickly. He always rushes you… I think when all top players feel like they are in control, they feel like they manage the match and play the match a little bit in their own favour and against him, it’s not possible. That’s why he has a great Top 10 record [4-2]. He’s an unbelievable player. Zverev on Marozsan.

Daring Dimitrov Defeats Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz was a red-hot favourite to capture his first Sunshine Double this year, but neither the punters nor the bookmakers saw him running into a red-hot Grigor Dimitrov on Thursday.
The Bulgarian played devastatingly, coming through 6-2, 6-4, in 1 hour and 34 minutes to record his second consecutive win against Alcaraz after his victory in Shanghai last year.
Pre-match, I made Alcaraz the strong favourite but I thought the nighttime conditions might help Dimitrov a touch as they’d give him a bit more time on the ball, which is something he’s historically liked/needed.
However, he didn’t need any of that yesterday. He took the ball super early and stepped in on the returns. His approach to going after the ball and moving forward was Federer-like, as he fired 24 winners and won 12 of 16 points at the net.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Dimitrov play like that, perhaps glimpses at the Australian Open against Nadal, but it was a brilliant performance from start to finish and reminded me of Fededer’s play in 2017. Epic.
I think overall, to win against him, you have to play at your best; that’s just how it is. I came into the match very focused, and I think it was extremely clear what to do. Sometimes, simplicity is genius. It’s very, very hard to do it, especially when you play against an opponent like that, but I was really able to dictate the game and read the game a little bit better than last time. Overall, I think a great match on my end and I’m just happy I finished in straight sets. I was using every opportunity I had. I think every second serve I had, I was attacking it. I was making sure I was putting him in a very difficult position. I had to keep being aggressive, come to the net, move the ball around and not let him hit. Dimitrov on how he took apart the world number one.
He played amazing tennis, almost perfect. I couldn’t find solutions, a way to make him feel uncomfortable on the court. It was a great game from his side. I left the court thinking that I probably had to change my game a little bit earlier, but anyway, I feel like I played good tennis—not perfect, but good. But I have a lot of frustrations right now because he made me feel like I’m 13 years old. It was crazy. I was talking to my team saying I don’t know what to do. I don’t know his weakness. I don’t know anything. Alcaraz on facing Dimitrov in God-mode.
