Naomi Osaka is feeling nostalgic ahead of her Australia return as the Japanese took to Instagram to share that hopped on a plane to fly to Brisbane. Osaka, 26, is set to launch her post-pregnancy comeback at the Brisbane International, which is taking place between December 31 – January 07. When Osaka kicks off her Brisbane campaign, she will be playing in Australia for the first time since 2022 January. In Australia, Osaka has had major success as she is a two-time Australian Open champion.
“Nostalgia wave cause Australia otw (on the way),” Osaka captioned her Instagram Story.
Osaka sets eyes on major goals in her post-pregnancy comeback
After winning her fourth Grand Slam at the 2021 Australian Open, Osaka dealt with certain mental health problems and she didn’t play much during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. But being away from pro tennis for a long time helped Osaka realize how much she looves the game and she is again determined and motivated to do major things.
“I definitely want to win more Grand Slams and I guess put in more time in the French Open and Wimbledon, and play the Paris Olympics. I want to be someone that understands the game a lot more. In the first chapter of my tennis I kind of got away with just being myself and playing with my instincts,” Osaka said earlier this month.
Throughout her pregnancy and after giving birth, Osaka spoke several times about how her daughter Shai would be one of the biggest motivations for her to do well in her comeback.
“I’ve never been a person that’s really good at playing for myself, if that makes sense. So I kind of like the feeling of having the responsibility of having to take care of Shai and wanting to show her around the world. I kind of feel more like I’m playing for her,” Osaka said.
