Nelly Korda wins the Drive On Championship

Nelly Korda triumphed in the Drive On Championship, the second LPGA Tour tournament of 2024, with a total score of 273 (-11) shots. The competition took place in Bradenton, Florida, the American golfer’s hometown and where she grew up.

In the thrilling playoff, she overcame New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, winner of the Tournament of Champions, who had opened the LPGA Tour season with a victory. Both finished the 72 holes of regulation with the same score, but it was an error (bogey against par) by Ko in the playoff that made the difference.

Korda’s victory was a test of character. Although she began the fourth round with a four-shot lead, she faced some difficulties with three bogeys and a double bogey in the first 16 holes. However, she found the strength to react by making an eagle on the 17th hole and a birdie on the 18th hole, thus taking the challenge to the playoff.

This victory marks a return to success for the 25-year-old, having achieved her last victory 14 months earlier (Pelican Women’s Championship in November 2022). It’s her ninth career win on the LPGA Tour, which also includes a win at a major, the Women’s PGA Championship in 2021.

It’s also her sixth win in the U.S. and first wire-to-wire, having led since start to end of the tournament. Meanwhile, Roberta Liti’s season with a full “card” on the LPGA Tour began with a cut exit. The young Tuscan golfer, who played on the Bradenton Country Club course (par 71), achieved a score of 148 (+6) after 36 holes and was eliminated from the competition.

The Rules of Golf are a set of standard rules and procedures by which the sport of golf should be played. They are jointly written and administered by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body of golf throughout the world, outside of the United States and Mexico, which are the responsibility of the United States Golf Association.

An expert commission made up of members of the R&A and USGA oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision is effective January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding and those that in certain cases reduce penalties to ensure balance.

The rule book, entitled “Rules of Golf”, is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy it is up to Federgolf to supervise the competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and managing the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
