Novak Djokovic tells Rafael Nadal what he is hoping to happen in 2024

Novak Djokovic reveals he would absolutely love to clash against Rafael Nadal at the 2024 French Open. Nadal, a record 14-time French Open champion, sustained an injury to his psoas muscle at the start of the 2023 season and the 37-year-old is aiming to return in 2024.

In May, Nadal revealed his plans to retire from pro tennis in 2024. Since Nadal seems to be set to retire, Djokovic knows there likely won’t be many chances for him and Nadal to play against each other again. Djokovic, who has a 30-29 head-to-head against Nadal, is wishing for at least one more meeting against the Spaniard and he would like that to happen at Roland Garros.

“I think many people would like it to be at Roland Garros. Why not? Although if you give me the choice I would say anywhere else. Roland Garros wouldn’t be bad, but Nadal is the player who has won there the most times in the history of the tournament.

I think any place will be incredible both for us and for the world of tennis. It would be like a kind of last dance. I don’t know how many more times we will have the opportunity to face each other or if we will do so. I hope so because it’s what everyone wants and so do I,” Djokovic told MARCA.

Djokovic on Nadal’s French Open record

Djokovic, who lifted his first French Open title in 2016, has since won two more titles at Roland Garros. MARCA asked Djokovic if he would be willing to play until his 50 if he was guaranteed to tie to break Nadal’s French Open record.

“I don’t know, I’m sure my wife wouldn’t find it very funny. I am very satisfied with everything I have achieved. I don’t have to look at Rafa’s record in Paris. I have many that I am proud of and that are part of history. If I retired right now, I could only be happy and proud of what I did,” Djokovic said.
