Talking on the Tennis Channel’s Inside-In podcast, Patrick McEnroe argued that it will be difficult for Novak Djokovic to win any more Majors, although he believes that the Serb is still in the running and remains among the most competitive players. The former American tennis player and brother of John McEnroe also said 2025 will be the last year of the 24-time Grand Slam champion’s career.
“I think next year will be his last year. It’s getting harder and harder for him to win Grand Slams. However, if the Australian Open started tomorrow, he would be the third favourite. He remains very solid. Rafael Nadal wanted to play more and Roger Federer wanted to play more. In some ways I think it will be the same for Novak. There is no doubt that Djokovic can also win the Australian Open in January. He won the Olympics on clay, it was fantastic. He can still win Wimbledon also because there are not many great players on grass yet,” he explained, before going into more detail on the issue:
“I think Sinner will be dangerous on every surface because we have seen him win two Slams on hard courts. Novak knows that in an important moment in an important tournament he can still be there. As long as he believes he has a chance, I think he will play even if I think next season could be his last. I predicted that he would not win any Slam this year and people thought I was crazy. But he won the Olympics. I think he was really thinking about trying to win that gold medal and, incredibly, he did it.”
