After two matches, there hasn’t been much change in the points table, with KKR, CSK, and LSG stationed at the same spot while MI moved down a notch.
IPL 2024 Highlights: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have registered their first away win of the season. Going against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team claimed a comprehensive 20-run victory. For Hardik Pandya, it’s been the same old story. The franchise has now suffered a fourth loss in six matches and will need some out-of-the-world performances to have a chance to qualify for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders breezed past the Lucknow Super Giant courtesy of a magical 3-fer by Mitchell Starc and a destructive 89* by their ace opener Phil Salt.
MS Dhoni finishes things off in style
Dhoni decided to roll back the clock today. The fearsome finisher smacked Hardik Pandya into smithereens. The wicketkeeper entered the middle with just four balls left and scored 20 runs. This included three consecutive sixes to three different parts of the region and proved to be the differentiating factor.
Hitman scores his first ton for MI
Albeit in vain, Rohit Sharma scored his second IPL century and the first for the Mumbai Indians in his 14 years with them. Apart from the opener’s 105, the next-best score was 31. He scored 16 boundaries (11 fours and 5 sixes), while his teammates combined scored just 11 boundaries.

Baby Malinga runs riot vs MI
It didn’t seem like Matheesha Pathirana was out for two matches. The unorthodox right-arm pacer is an exact copy of Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga and bowled just like him against the Mumbai Indians. He claimed four of MI’s six wickets and dismissed players like Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Romario Shepherd.
Phil Salt’s assault
Although Mitchell Starc deserves big praise for his 3-fer, it was Phil Salt who handed the Kolkata Knight Riders a comfortable victory. The aggressive opener scored 89 of the 162 runs the Shreyas Iyer-led team scored and ensured they got to the target in just 15.2 overs. It may seem like it now, but his assault may be the reason why KKR moved to the next stage due to a superior net run rate.
