Sepp Straka is frustrated with current events on the golf scene. Speaking to SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio, the great golfer expressed some anger. Straka does not understand why so much emphasis is placed on LIV Golf. “Everywhere you go, it’s never ‘how great is it playing on the PGA Tour’, it’s always ‘well, what do you think about LIV?’, – he said, as quoted by golfmonthly.com!
Every golfer’s dream was to play on the big stage, and that meant playing on the PGA Tour. A few years back, predicting the current development in the golf scene would have been unimaginable. “I never thought that there would be a rival Tour when I was growing up.
It was always the dream to be on the PGA Tour growing up and I’m living out that dream and it’s incredible.”
Sepp Straka: I think it’s a little bit sad for golf right now
Straka is disappointed that he lacks the chance to compete alongside the world’s top golfers.
While there are numerous exceptional players on the PGA Tour, the scheduling conflict resulting in the best golfers being split between Tours is undoubtedly a downside. “But I think it’s a little bit sad for golf right now in general.
You’ve got a lot of the greatest players on the planet playing different tournaments and you don’t get to see them together except for four times at the Majors. That part is a little bit sad for the fans.”
After LIV Golf came along, PGA Tour leaders increased their golfers’ earnings.
That is one of the positive things. “For the players, in terms of money it’s been great for everybody involved because the PGA purses have gone up. I don’t know how sustainable that is but we’ll see what happens.” The coming months could bring more positive stories.
The merger between PGA Tour and LIV Golf is causing optimism, but we still have no new information on when the agreement will be reached. “Hopefully over the next few months or years it will settle in and become a new normal but right now it’s sad for the fans to see all the greatest players split on two different circuits.”
