The Golden State Warriors are yet to come anywhere near the level of play they’re accustomed to, and there is reportedly some tension between the organisation and some of its most prominent players.
According to ESPN’s Kendra Andrews, some within the organisation have been irked by Wiggins not being in proper playing shape to start the season.
“Regarding Wiggins, ESPN sources reveal that after an undisclosed personal absence last season, he didn’t dedicate enough time during the summer to regain top physical form for the current season,” Andrews wrote.
“This lack of conditioning has irked some within the organization, as Wiggins currently ranks poorly in shooting efficiency among players with over 75 attempts and sits near the bottom in free throw percentage among qualified players, trailing only Aaron Gordon.”
Wiggins isn’t the only one who’s had a forgettable season thus far, with the report adding that ongoing contract negotiations are “weighing heavily” on Klay Thompson and “visibly impacting his demeanour during games”.
As far as Draymond Green is concerned, the Warriors’ tolerance of his behaviour is rooted in the value he brings to the team, but that could change once he is no longer as valuable on the court, per the report.
The Warriors have an 8-9 record and are sitting 10th in the Western Conference.
