The 2024 tennis season will bring with it a great and highly anticipated news: Rafael Nadal’s come back on the court. The organizers of the ATP 250 tournament in Brisbane have announced the official entry list of the event that will open the new season and obviously, the most awaited name was that of the legendary Spanish champion.
Cameron Pearson, CEO of the tournament, said he was proud that his event will host Nadal’s official return. Pearson had the chance to speak with the Spaniard’s team and is quite confident about the physical condition in which he will show up in Brisbane. “Rafa has been out for almost a year, he has undergone a rather major surgery.
It’s natural for him to have some uncertainty. He is a complete professional, he wouldn’t come back if he wasn’t 100% ready. In my contacts with his team it transpires that he is ready to play, but he wants to lower expectations and perhaps this is taking some pressure off him.
He can’t wait to come to Brisbane. He has been here several times and always liked playing this tournament to get closer to Melbourne,” said Pearson to Eurosport. The Brisbane tournament will be played from 31 December 2023 to 7 January 2024.
Nadal will finally come back: from Brisbane to Melbourne
Nadal suffered a serious injury during the second round match with Mackenzie McDonald at the Australian Open and decided to end his season early to recover 100% physically.
The 22-time Slam champion will leave from Brisbane, where he will try to regain his psycho-physical condition in view of the first Slam of 2024, the Australian Open. Nadal’s main rivals in Brisbane will be Holger Rune, Grigor Dimitrov, Ben Shelton, Ugo Humbert and Sebastian Korda. The Spaniard will try to get the best of his shape in order to reach his beloved Clay Swing at his best level.
