Threat of a storm postpones to this Monday

The Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek, next to South Africa’s Kruger Park, will conclude today after having suspended play on Sunday due to the severe threat of thunderstorms. South African players Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen share the lead with 16 under par on the 8th hole of this European circuit tournament.

Madrid golfer Alejandro del Rey is in the top ten with 7 strokes left.

Schwartzel and Oosthuizen were both 1 under par after playing seven holes. They were three strokes ahead of Christiaan Bezuidenhout, another South African player (3 under after seven holes).

Andy Sullivan and Matti Schmid are two shots further back, at 11 under. This is the third consecutive event to start the season in South Africa following the Joburg Open two weeks ago and the South African Open, also in Johannesburg, last week, both won by local player Dean Burmester, who is 1 under and 15 off the lead.

. It is interesting to mention that seven of the last eight winners of the Alfred Dunhill Championship have been South African players. Next week the Mauritius Open will be held in Africa, before the circuit takes a break until mid-January to host other events in the Persian Gulf region.

Designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the park is also included in the Kruger to Canyons Biosphere, an area recognized as an International Man and Biosphere Reserve.
