Zheng Qinwen reveals she was left very impressed by how calm and relaxed Novak Djokovic looked during their recent conversation and that’s one thing she would like to learn from the Serb.
On Tuesday, Djokovic was in action at the Australian Open, while Zheng had a day off. Before taking to the court, world No. 1 Djokovic was spotted chatting with 21-year-old Zheng.
The following day, Zheng got the job done against Anna Kalinskaya, beating the Russian 6-7 (4) 6-3 6-1 in the Australian Open. When asked about her conversation with Djokovic, the 21-year-old Chinese said she would like to learn how to be as calm and relaxed as Djokovic is before a match.
“Well, that talk was really fast, honestly. I talked with him before his match. He came to say hi to me, so chill,” Zheng said of her conversation with Djokovic
“Looked like he didn’t have a match. Because I, before the match, I’m really focused and I don’t want to talk with anyone. I really want to learn that chill from the top players, because I think that is what I miss.
“I mean, was a really nice conversation with Novak yesterday.”

Zheng made the Australian Open after a conversation with Djokovic
After beating Kalinskaya for her first Grand Slam semifinal, Zheng also made her first Major final after ousting Dayana Yastremska 6-4 6-4. In the end, Zheng fell just short of concluding his breakthrough Grand Slam tournament with a maiden Major title after losing to Aryna Sabalenka 6-3 6-2.
Following a straight-set loss to Sabalenka in the Australian Open, Zheng didn’t hide her unhappiness with her level and performance. Addressing her loss, Zheng said she did not play her best but also gave credit to Sabalenka by stating that she didn’t really give her many chances with her tennis.

However, it was still a very positive Australian Open run for Zheng, who will break into the top-10 for the first time on Monday and reach a career-high ranking of No. 7 in the world.
